How to measure
Five minutes with a tape measure before you order saves a return. Measure the room, then the way in.
The space it will stand in
Measure the width, depth and height of the spot, in centimetres. Leave room to open drawers, lift a lid or walk past: about 60 to 75 cm for a walkway is a common rule of thumb.
The way in
- Every door on the route: the width of the opening with the door fully open, and the height.
- Hallways and landings: the narrowest width, and any tight turn.
- Stairs: the width, the headroom at the lowest point, and any turn or half-landing.
- Lifts, if there is one: door width and the inside depth.
A piece usually fits through an opening if its depth or its width, whichever is smaller, is less than the opening. Tall pieces may need to be tilted, so compare the diagonal too.
Compare with the fit plan
Each product page has a fit plan: the piece drawn to scale beside a standard UK internal door (76.2 × 198.1 cm, 762 × 1981 mm), with its width, depth and height. Switch between centimetres and inches if you need to. Pieces we are still measuring say “Size to confirm” beside a dashed outline; we never guess a size.
